Frequently Asked Questions
What does the Center for Disease Control (CDC) recommend for personal protection?
The CDC recommends using EPA-registered insect repellents containing DEET, picaridin, IR3535, oil of lemon eucalyptus (OLE), para-menthane-diol (PMD), or 2-undecanone for personal protection on skin.
How do I apply repellent to my face?
When using sprays, do not spray directly into your face, spray on hands first and then apply to your face. DO NOT apply near eyes and mouth and apply sparingly around ears. Wipe palms after applying.
Is DEET safe to use?
The EPA indicates that “Based on the available toxicology data, the agency believes that the normal use of DEET does not present a health concern to the general US population when used as directed.”
I’ve heard DEET can damage certain materials, is that true?
Yes, do not apply on or near acetate rayon, spandex or other synthetics (other than nylon), furniture, plastics, watch crystals, leather, and painted or varnished surfaces including automobiles.
How can I tell if there is still repellent in the can?
It’s a continuous spray, so there are no propellants to move around, it is pressurized air. So, spray until empty.
